SURELY YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH CHILDREN’S BOOKS

About Us: H. Wilson Books is a small independent Canadian book company whose mission is to sell quality books for children and the young-at-heart. We provide amusing books to enlighten and entertain (and yes, educate). Our books are printed in Canada.

Based in Courtenay, B.C., Canada, H. Wilson Books is a small firm specializing in fun, colourful books for children.. We do our own work except for printing, which we contract out to a Canadian print house. We invite schools and libraries to query us on special pricing. H Wilson Books was named for departed musician Heather Jane Wilson of Quadra Island, B.C. who was a marvelous cellist but also a uniquely creative metal designer. Heather was quirky but inspirational, and is truly missed. Heather passed unexpectedly from illness and left us too soon. Our logo is Heather’s signature.

J.P. Bailey

J.P. grew up in rural Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada, surrounded by nature, horses, and a group of outstanding friends. In her family home, there was always music. Both of J.P. ’s grandfathers played the violin, one being a fiddler and one a classical player. Books of all kinds also played heavily in J.P.s upbringing.

J.P. began crafting children’s stories when her children were toddlers, and they just could not get enough storytelling at bedtime. She did not start writing them down, however, until her son took up the bassoon, which inspired her to write her first book, “Baboons with Bassoons.”

J.P. is a musician who plays the violin and the viola in Courtenay, B.C. H. Wilson Books has produced five of J.P.s books, all of which are in amusing rhyming form for children aged 2 to 7. (self reading Grade 1 to 2). To contact J.P., send a message through this site’s “Contact Us” form.

Ninety-nine point eight (99.8) per cent of the time, J.P. is seen wearing a beret. When asked why, she replies, “Please read my musing on berets”.

BAILEY’S writing style for children has been compared to Dr. Seuss. Her musings, which she mostly refers to as rants, are another matter.

J.P. holds several health-related certificates and diplomas, and has dabbled in numerous things throughout her life, including ballet, ballroom dance, orienteering, violin-making, highland drumming, and archery.

Ana Sofía Chi

Born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, in 1996, Ana Sofía is a tireless traveler. She has lived in Guatemala, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Veracruz, Baja California Sur, Wyoming, and Toronto, to name a few, and will keep exploring the world until “her feet disappear”.

Ana Sofía started drawing at the age of 3. She was first self taught, and for the last four years she has been training with sculptors, painters, illustrators, engravers, and street artists. She studied two and a half years at the Universidad Veracruzana (Veracruz, México) in the Visual Arts Program. Afterwards, she took a four-month course on realist art that changed her artistic perspective. With that in mind, she decided to study at a classical training school, and joined the Academy of Realist Art, Toronto.

Chi has been part of several individual and collective art exhibitions in Xalapa and San José del Cabo (México); and one collective exhibition of sculpture in Serbia.  She has been commissioned with more than 50 paintings and two murals for the Hotel Posada Real hotels (Puerto Escondido and San José del Cabo). She has also worked for character design for the Universidad Veracruzana, and she is also, occasionally, an art teacher.

Ana Sofía is passionate about nature, trekking, traveling, ecology, mythology, and fantasy. Her artwork talks about questioning the supposed “truths” of the world, such as the division between black/white, good/ evil, life/death, and human/animal. She loves to explore different techniques, but drawing, watercolor, engraving, and painting are her strengths.

Chi has completed the 2nd level of the art realism program at the Academy of Realist Art, Toronto, Canada. She is also working as a children’s illustrator for H Wilson Books, and is exhibiting her art work at Galería Rawelli, Los Cabos, México.
