Free Lettuce for All

Now and again, I go to a fast food restaurant, and with apologies to vegetarians, I enjoy the taste of a burger now and again. And when I order a burger, I may get cheese on it, but nothing else… no relish, no mustard, no mayo, no onions, surprisingly no pickles, no sauce if I can help it, but I do enjoy a piece of delicious, healthy lettuce. How much do you think a piece of lettuce is worth? According to burger joints, fifteen cents. Yes that’s right. I pay fifteen cents for a piece of lettuce. Even if I ask them to hold the tomato.. surely a slice of tomato is worth 15 cents? Like so many things in this world, I don’t get it… so, when I ask the clerk, why do you charge me for the lettuce but you don’t give me credit for not using the mustard, relish, mayo, onions, ketchup, pickles or tomato, they just look at me like their brain broke, and then finally they will say something like, “well it’s just not done” (where have I heard THAT before). You know, I could see it if I am ADDING lettuce after I have already gotten a fully loaded burger, but that is not the case. (It seems to me though, that A&W in Edmonton, Alberta gives free lettuce, so yay!). Anyway, if you own a burger establishment, and you see me coming, please, offer me free lettuce and really make my day, and I shall pay it forward.
