Canada Post, Not just Packages
Funny things happen in life, and sometimes procrastination does work out. Many years ago I lived in an old house in Courtenay, B.C. Previous owners had used a fair-sized bedroom as a laundry room and that seemed like wasted space, so we moved the laundry machines to the back porch and the room became an office. One problem was of course, the gaping hole in the outer wall that was left by the dryer vent. How to fix it? I was not a carpenter and my spouse was not a handyman. So we stuffed some insulation in the hole – it’s ok, it was summertime, and we put off any repair until fall.
One fine day, our neighbour came by to say that he had been receiving mail from the post mistress, and while she was standing on his porch, her truck seemingly went out of gear, careened down the road, hit a rock or pothole, turned into our driveway, and much to her horror, struck our house. The truck lost some paint to the wall, and the house, well, it was generally fine, being a rock solid old thing, but did receive some damage from the truck. Where was this damage? Right at the area of the dryer vent hole. Imagine that! Thank you, Canada Post, for your fine delivery service, for your friendly workers, and for fixing our wall. Red, white, and blue (and some grey) forever. Now, if they could lower their prices…..
